Visas & entry

Andorra issues no visas of its own, so Indian passport holders should carry a multiple-entry Schengen visa — you technically exit Schengen (France or Spain) to enter and must re-enter it to leave. Visa-free Schengen nationals simply bus or drive in; passports are rarely stamped.

e-Visa: yes · Visa on arrival: Varies by nationality

Getting around

No airport, no railway: arrive by coach (Andbus or Direct Bus, about 3 hours from Barcelona or from Toulouse). Frequent local buses link the seven parishes along the main valley road.

Car vs taxi: A car or the Barcelona/Toulouse coaches are the practical way in, and wheels help for the Grandvalira and Vallnord ski areas; taxis exist but are limited and pricey. Andorra la Vella itself is compactly walkable.

Money, SIM & tipping

Money: Uses the euro despite not being an EU member, even minting its own Andorran coins. Duty-free shopping on electronics, perfume and tobacco is a national sport, and cards are accepted everywhere.

SIM & data: Andorra Telecom is the country's only operator, and Andorra sits outside EU roam-like-home — EU or Indian roaming SIMs can rack up charges here. Buy a local prepaid or lean on hotel Wi-Fi.

Tipping: Not obligatory — service is included, Spanish-style; rounding up or leaving 5–10% for good service is appreciated.

Culture & language

Etiquette: Catalan is the official language — open with 'Bon dia' — though Spanish and French are universal. Shops often close for a long lunch; dress warmly for mountain restaurants.

Food: Try escudella (the hearty national stew), trinxat (cabbage, potato and bacon hash) and grilled meats at a traditional borda farmhouse restaurant. Pyrenean wines are a small but proud niche.

Say hello: Local language — “Hello” · thanks “Thank you” · how much? “How much?”

Safety & emergency

One of Europe's lowest crime rates — the real risks are alpine: ski injuries, sudden mountain weather and icy roads. Carry snow chains in winter.

Living, nomad & costs

For nomads: Andorra la Vella attracts tech workers and expats with tax benefits and mountain lifestyle; growing digital economy.

Education: Limited international schooling; higher education often pursued in France or Spain.

Healthcare: Modern healthcare; costs higher due to Alpine location and small population.
