The journal

A red hut, a Union Jack gone pale with weather, and a postmistress who told me letters take months to reach home. I mailed one to myself anyway. Gentoo penguins nested right against the porch steps, indifferent to us, filling the whole cove with a smell I wasn't warned about and won't forget.
