Visas & entry

Indian passport holders can apply for Bahrain's e-visa online (a range of tourist visa durations), and holders of valid US, UK, EU or GCC visas or residence may find easier eligibility. Many nationalities can obtain visas on arrival or e-visas.

e-Visa: yes · Visa on arrival: Varies by nationality

Getting around

Bahrain has no metro (though one is planned); getting around is by car, with taxis and the Careem app the main options, and the King Fahd Causeway links to Saudi Arabia.

Car vs taxi: Given the compact island, a rental car is convenient, but the Careem app and metered taxis handle Manama easily without parking worries.

Money, SIM & tipping

Money: The Bahraini dinar (BHD) is one of the world's strongest currencies, divided into 1000 fils; cards are accepted almost everywhere, with cash useful in the Manama Souq.

SIM & data: Buy a Batelco (stc Bahrain), Zain or stc SIM at Bahrain International Airport or in malls with your passport; data coverage across the small island is excellent.

Tipping: A 10 percent service charge is often added; if not, leaving around 10 percent is appreciated, along with small tips for hotel staff and drivers.

Culture & language

Etiquette: Bahrain is relatively liberal for the Gulf but still Muslim; dress modestly in public, respect Ramadan daytime fasting, and note alcohol is available in licensed venues.

Food: Try machboos, muhammar (sweet rice), balaleet, and fresh seafood like hamour, along with samboosa and Arabic coffee with dates.

Say hello: Arabic — “As-salamu alaykum” · thanks “Shukran” · how much? “Bikam?”

Safety & emergency

Bahrain is generally safe with low crime; occasional localised protests occur in some villages, so stay aware, and summer heat is intense.
