The journal

The wind in Chilean Patagonia nearly took my hat and my breath in the same gust, somewhere on the trail beneath the Torres del Paine granite spires. I shared a thermos of mate with a Chilean shepherd who'd walked that route a hundred times and still stopped, every time, to look up at the towers.

Marble Caves · Caves

Stunning marble formations sculpted by waves within an azure lake, accessed by boat over translucent water. Best: Dec–Feb

Los Glaciares National Park · National park

UNESCO park across the border protecting glaciers, turquoise lakes, and jagged peaks like Fitz Roy. Best: Nov–Mar

Mount Fitz Roy · Viewpoint

Iconic granite peak famous for trekking and stunning mountain scenery. Best: Nov–Apr
