The journal

I spent a rainy afternoon in a Marais bookshop where the owner refused to sell me a first edition, insisting I wasn't ready for it yet. We argued amiably over coffee instead. That stubbornness, more than any boulevard or bridge, is what I think of when someone says the word Paris to me now.
