The Spice Isle of nutmeg and beaches
Trade agreements (5): Trades via the OECS Economic Union and CARICOM/CSME under the CARIFORUM–EU and UK EPAs; exports centre on nutmeg and mace (a world-leading producer) plus cocoa. No India FTA — bilateral trade is tiny, though spice and education links are growing.
Passport strength: visa-free/VOA to ~147 destinations. Strong Caribbean & Commonwealth access.

Indian passport holders enter Grenada visa-free for stays of up to 90 days — just carry onward tickets and accommodation proof. US, UK, Canadian, EU and CARICOM nationals are likewise visa-free.
e-Visa: yes · Visa on arrival: Varies by nationality
Numbered minibuses fan out from St George's Esplanade terminal (the No. 1 runs to Grand Anse), each with a conductor working the sliding door; water taxis shuttle between the Carenage and Grand Anse beach, and the Osprey ferry serves Carriacou.
Car vs taxi: Minibuses are cheap, frequent and spirited; 'H'-plate taxis use fixed rates, so confirm before riding. Renting a car requires a local permit (about EC$60) and nerve for narrow, winding left-side roads — many visitors happily stick to buses plus the odd taxi.
Money: The East Caribbean dollar (XCD), pegged at 2.70 to the US dollar and shared with seven OECS neighbours; USD is widely accepted. Keep cash for minibuses and the spice-market stalls.
SIM & data: Flow and Digicel sell prepaid SIMs in St George's and at Maurice Bishop airport; coverage spans Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
Tipping: 10% where service isn't included; hotels typically add a 10% service charge on top of tax. Tip water-taxi crews and tour guides in EC or US dollars.
Etiquette: A 'good morning' before any transaction is essential courtesy on the Spice Isle — nutmeg even features on the national flag. Dress modestly in St George's town; beachwear is for the beach.
Food: Oil down — breadfruit, callaloo, salted meat and coconut milk stewed in one pot — is the national dish and a social event; nearly everything comes nutmeg-laced (ice cream, jam, rum punch), and the Grenada Chocolate Company makes acclaimed tree-to-bar bars.
Say hello: English — “Hello” · thanks “Thank you” · how much? “How much?”
Very safe by regional standards, with petty theft from beaches and yachts the main issue. Hurricane season peaks August–October — Beryl battered Carriacou in 2024 — so book with that in mind.
For nomads: Small nomad community in St. George's; island charm; English-speaking; tranquil but limited amenities.
Education: Smaller island with limited education options; some international school availability.
Healthcare: Adequate private healthcare; serious cases may require travel to larger islands.
