The cable car glided over La Paz's steep chaos at sunrise, laundry lines and tin roofs stacked up the canyon walls like the whole city had been poured in and left to settle. My cabin-mate, a vegetable vendor heading to market, pointed out her own rooftop below without a trace of the awe I felt.
