Gaborone

Botswana's calm, modern capital

The journal

Gaborone surprised me with its calm, workaday rhythm after the bush — minibuses idling, vendors selling phone cards under acacia shade. I ate seswaa and pap at a roadside stall where the owner corrected my pronunciation twice, laughing kindly both times, until I finally got it close enough to earn a nod.
