The journal

Elephants crossed the road in front of our vehicle at dusk, unhurried, a calf tucked between two matriarchs. Our driver cut the engine and we just watched, the Chobe River glinting behind them. Someone in the back seat whispered instead of speaking, as though volume mattered to creatures that size.
