A stranger on Ipanema beach taught me to say 'tudo bem' properly, laughing at my accent for a solid minute before buying me a coconut water. Rio moved in a rhythm I could never quite master — samba drifting from a bar, the cable car groaning up to Sugarloaf, everyone seemingly late and unbothered by it.
