The journal

An elk crossed the road ahead of my rental car near dusk, unbothered, and I sat there grinning like an idiot. The air at Lake Louise smelled of pine and cold stone. I'd packed for scenery and left with something closer to humility, watching glaciers hold their color at sunset.
