Mountains meet the Pacific Ocean

The journal

Mountains met water so abruptly that my first morning felt staged. I ate a still-warm cinnamon bun on a bench in Stanley Park while a heron stood motionless nearby, both of us waiting on nothing in particular. Rain came later, soft and unhurried, like the city was clearing its throat.
