The journal

I climbed the city walls at opening time, before the cruise crowds arrived, and had a stretch of limestone parapet entirely to myself. A fisherman below cast a line off the rocks near Ploče Gate. The Adriatic was so clear I could see his hook sink through six feet of blue-green water.
