A sudden downpour sent everyone at Dolac Market scrambling to cover crates of cherries with plastic sheeting, a practiced chaos that took maybe ninety seconds start to finish. I sheltered under an awning with a woman clutching a bag of peonies, both of us watching red fruit disappear under tarps like a magic trick.
