The journal

I arrived in Otavalo on market day, when the plaza turned into a maze of woven textiles in colors I couldn't name. An indigenous weaver let me try her backstrap loom for a few clumsy minutes, shaking her head kindly at my tangled thread before taking it back with practiced, unbothered hands.
