The market at dawn smelled of vanilla pods and grilled fish before the heat set in, vendors calling out in French and Tahitian in the same breath. I sat with a bowl of poisson cru at a roulotte truck by the waterfront, watching container ships and outrigger canoes share the same harbor light.
