The journal

From my outrigger canoe, the lagoon shifted through turquoise shades I didn't have names for, Mount Otemanu presiding over all of it like something ceremonial. A local guide cracked open a fresh coconut for me mid-paddle, no charge, just generosity offered the way you'd hand someone a compliment.
