The black sand beach at Vík unsettled me more than I expected — that color shouldn't belong to a shoreline. I stood watching the basalt sea stacks while a sudden squall soaked me completely, then passed just as fast. A local shrugged when I mentioned it: 'that's just Tuesday here,' she said.
