The journal

Snow was still on the ground in what locals insisted was spring. I drove out to a geothermal pool half-frozen at the edges and shared it with three fishermen who'd finished their shift and wanted only silence and heat. Akureyri's stillness felt earned, like the whole town was exhaling after a long winter.
