The journal

I stayed longer in Ubud than planned, drawn in by a rice farmer who let me walk his terraces at dawn in exchange for nothing but conversation. The mornings smelled of wet earth and frangipani. Bali taught me that some trips resist their itineraries, and that's usually when they become worth remembering.
