A colleague-turned-friend took me to a warung behind his office where the sambal made my eyes water and the other diners laughed kindly at my reaction. Jakarta's traffic was legendary and lived up to its reputation, but the city's warmth toward a stumbling visitor more than made up for the gridlock.
