The journal

A stranger at a standing bar in Dotonbori insisted on ordering for me, waving off my phrasebook Japanese with a laugh. What arrived was octopus so hot I burned my tongue and didn't care. Osaka struck me as Tokyo's looser, hungrier cousin — the city where Japan lets its collar down.
