The journal

The water taxi driver cut the motor near a reef and pointed down without a word — a sea turtle grazing just beneath the surface, unbothered by our hull's shadow. We drifted there longer than the tour probably scheduled. Nobody complained. Salt spray had dried stiff on my forearms by the time we moved on.
