The journal

I rode the cable car up Table Mountain on a rare windless morning and watched cloud spill over the edge like poured milk. Later, in Bo-Kaap, a woman selling koeksisters from her stoop told me the neighborhood's colors started as a simple act of defiance, and never stopped being one.
