The journal

An antiques dealer in the souq talked me out of buying a coffee pot I didn't need, insisting I look at three others first, which felt like generosity disguised as salesmanship. Sharjah wore its cultural seriousness plainly, without apology, and I found that more interesting than any skyline could have been.
