I visited the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in the hour before closing, when the crowds thinned and the white marble caught the last orange light. A guide who'd clearly answered the same questions a thousand times still answered mine patiently. Abu Dhabi felt more deliberate than Dubai, less in a hurry to impress.
