The formula

CIF customs value = goods value + freight + insurance
Duty = CIF × duty rate %
VAT / GST (if used) = (CIF + duty) × tax rate %
Landed total = CIF + duty + VAT/GST + other fees
Per unit = landed total ÷ units

Honest caveats

Most countries (including India and the EU) assess duty on the CIF value; the US uses FOB (freight/insurance excluded from the customs value) — adjust your inputs accordingly.
Real entries can add more layers: India applies a Social Welfare Surcharge on duty and IGST on the duty-inclusive value; anti-dumping or safeguard duties may apply on top. Check your exact tariff line — start with our HS Code Lookup.
Duty rates change with budgets and trade agreements — verify the live rate on ICEGATE (India), TARIC (EU) or the US HTS before quoting.
If registered for VAT/GST you may recover that tax; treat it as cash-flow, not always final cost.
