The journal

I woke at 5 a.m. for the mountain view and nearly missed it to clouds, until they parted just long enough over Phewa Lake to reveal Machapuchare's peak. A boatman rowed me out in silence, understanding without being told that I didn't want to talk. Some views earn their patience.
