Negotiations were suspended in October 2023 following diplomatic tensions between India and Canada. Both countries had been negotiating since 2010 with 12+ rounds. Resumption depends on normalisation of bilateral relations.
What would India-Canada CECA cover?
The proposed CECA would cover goods (pharma, engineering, agro-food, textiles), services (IT, education, professional services), investment, and intellectual property. It would be Canada's first FTA with a South Asian nation.
